Thursday was a marathon day for our team. We whipped our newest 1600 sqft junior loft together in a single day without buying anything new! All for one of our favorite repeat clients. So grateful for my badass team of lady’s who do whatever it takes to get the job done. So proud of the work we do creating theses community-minded spaces. #myairbnbjourney When I first started hosting on @airbnb (in the down economy of 2009) I didn’t have much money to make my loft the design haven I’d been dreaming and mentally planning. I had to get super creative. I’ve always believed that great bedding is essential to a good nights sleep. And anyone who knows me, know I LOVE my sleep. So since I couldn’t afford the fancier linen beddings I drooled over in magazines I started making my own. Using my homemade dining table (yet another story for another day) as my craft table. I’d whip up my own pillow shams from sample sale fabrics. Guests staying with me would keep me/company entertained as I sewed up pillows and bedding for a guest room. Soon guests started asking to buy my creations. This got the wheels in my head turning. I started making a few extra items in case people wanted to take a cushion cover back home with them to remember there time in living in this insane loft. About a year into hosting, my first South African arrived. She was supposed to stay for 2 weeks… she stayed for 2 years (that’s another story in its self that I’ll tell soon). This led to many things, including my first trip to Cape Town and my discovery of some of my favorite #SouthAfrican textiles that are now all over the lofts and our online shop @shopshellsloft.
